1The River Market

The River Market is a 150-yr-old riverfront neighborhood bordering the Missouri River. It’s a mecca for lovers of History and Fresh Eats.

Things to do...

2Downtown

Welcome to one of “America’s 10 Best Downtowns”(Forbes)! Skyscrapers, Art Deco Buildings, Live Entertainment, and more can be found in Heart of the City. Here you can discover a New and Vibrant energy thanks to a $6.5-Billion Renaissance in the city’s core over the last seven years.

  • The Power and Light District, is KC's premier living, shopping, dining and entertainment neighborhood.
  • Catch a live concert at KC Live!.  located within a city block and two levels of world-class restaurants, taverns and night spots
  • The Sprint Center is a multi-purpose indoor arena, similar to NYC's Barclay's center, for those in the know.
  • Cold beer, hot movies, and delicious snacks is what you will find at the Alamo Drafhouse.

3The Crossroads

Once-vacant warehouses now hum with renewed vigor.  You can sense an energy in the air, inviting visitors to take part in all the district has to offer.  Tour a gallery before dining at a farm-to-table restaurant in this avant-garde neighborhood that the arts built.

Things to do...

  • Ballets, orchestras, choirs, musicals and plays are some of what can be found at the  Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
  • There's never a cover at the Green Lady Lounge where you can order a cocktail in a classy lounge atmosphere and listen to Live Kansas City Jazz.
  • The recordBar is a popular live-music joint with frequent all-ages shows & upscale-casual American grub.

4Westport

Craft and cool are king in this area locals know as a popular nightlife district.  However, in the 1800's, Westport stood as a bustling outpost offering the last taste of European civilization at the doorstep of the Great West.  Both call for a toast.

Things to do...

  • Beginning in the heart of Westport, you can take a self-guided tour of the  Battle of Westport,  one of the largest Civil War battles fought west of the Mississippi river.  There are 25 major sites associated with the battle, each site is marked with a historical narrative marker.
  • Discover French Flair with Midwest Heart at Ça va, a French Bistro and Champagne Bar.
  • If you're a nerd for artsy and/or foreign films, come check out Tivoli Theater located on Pennsylvania Ave., near Westport Rd.
  • The locals know Buzzard Beach as the go-to dive bar when meeting friend for a night of drinks and shenanigans.

5The Country Club Plaza

Some call it the 'Rodeo Drive of the Midwest," but this Spanish-Inspired shopping district dotted with fountains and statues truly has a flavor all its own.

Things to do...

  • The The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is the cultural jewel of Kansas City with over 40,000 works of art and just three blocks from the Country Club Plaza.  Admission is free.
  • Located within a short vicinity of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art featuring temporary exhibitions, installations, film and video series, lectures, concerts, and more.
  • The Kansas City Rep has been nationally recognized for its exceptional and highly creative productions of stage classics, new works and musicals.  One of it's two theaters is located just east of the plaza.
  • The Melting Pot is sure to delight the cheese lover in you.  Try a variety of cheeses fondue style.  Also featuring Chocolate fondue!

6West 39th St.

More than just an incredibly walkable strip of real estate between KU Med and Westport, West 39th Street is a funky collage of culture and cuisine - and on of the most colorful neighborhoods in the city.

Things to do...

  • If you happen to be in Kansas City on a Third Friday, then be sure to swing by West 39th Street where you will find live music, busking musicians, happy hours, boutique sales, spring collection debuts, specials and more!
  • Shop Vintage and Vintage Inspired clothing at Donna's Dress Shop
  • Frick and Frack has been a fun and eclectic local hangout since 1976.  Pop in for a game of Billiard's and affordable food specials.
  • Visit Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen for delicious New Orleans cuisine.  Back in Christina's early college days she waited tables here!  She recommends the spicy shrimp etouffee!  Yum!
